Comments regarding the Covanta Incinerator sent to BACI | |
In common with many Marston Vale residents, I was unhappy that the government decided to allow the Covanta incinerator plant to go ahead, despite both local authorities opposing the application. Earlier this year Public Health England advised parents to turn off their car engines while waiting outside their child’s school. This followed the publication of a report that found that 36,000 people a year are dying from human-made pollution. With this is mind, I find it difficult to understand how an incinerator and 600 lorry movements a day near people’s homes is acceptable.
It is also disappointing to see on the Central Bedfordshire Council (CBC) website that it now believes that operation of this installation will not have an impact on communities in close proximity to the incinerator (including the 5,000 new homes it wants to see built in the area). If elected I will be constantly reminding CBC that local objection to the incinerator has not gone away. I wish BACI well with its latest fight in the courts. |
