Comments regarding the Covanta Incinerator sent to BACI | |
Thank you for the email and the opportunity to engage on the matter. I have been a long time supporter of the BACI cause. Having lived in Flitwick for some 15 years, one of the things that I have most appreciated is that I can look out of my bedroom window and see green hills. I can walk 10 minutes and be in farmland or in the woods. When I drive out of Flitwick, I can enjoy the countryside and lovely view over Marston Vale. My daughter is a regular user of Stewartby Lake along with the other young people and staff of Flitwick and Ampthill Sea Cadets. I can say that I find it irresponsible of any company to place such a facility anywhere near places such as this. Whilst there are many who may disagree with me, I love where I live. I am grateful that my family can enjoy these same benefits. We are all lovers of nature and would be incredibly upset to see a carbuncle set into a landscape recovering from the effects of the brickworks. In addition to this, I am a lifelong sufferer of chronic asthma. The quality of the air which I breathe is of immense importance to me. It is, in fact, a matter of life or death in many ways. As the Town Mayor and Chairman of Flitwick Town Council, I have long supported your efforts. Whilst I certainly cannot claim sole responsibility for this support amongst a group of Councillors and Staff who can see the dangers of this facility, I can say that I have helped facilitate the support FTC has given you including the donations which appear so rare from the affected Councils. I am well aware that there are those who have done far more on than me on this cause. Indeed, there are those who have given over their lives to fighting this. I thank them for their continued efforts and pledge my continued support in which ever way I can help. Should you have any further questions I would be happy to answer them. |
